MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) -- Russia should ensure sustainable work of the national segment of the Internet to keep it stable in case of any new sanctions imposed by Western countries against Moscow, presidential aide for the Internet German Klimenko said in an interview to RT.
Western partners cut off Crimea not so long ago from services of U.S. giants Google and Microsoft, Klimenko said.
“The probability of ‘Teutonic shifts’ in our relations with the West toward worsening is high. That is why we have the task of regulating the Russian segment of the Internet to protect it from such scenarios. It’s important that email, telegraph, telephone and social networks keep on functioning in Russia,” the official said.
“Critically important infrastructure, including a copy of a domain zone, should be located on our territory to keep it safe from switching off.”
The Communications and Mass Media Ministry worked out in November a bill to control the whole Internet infrastructure in the country. The move is aimed at ensuring integrity, sustainability and security of the national Web.
